2026 has been named the year of the Oscar-Winning Polish filmmaker Andrzej Wajda, due to the centennial of his birthday. On this occasion, the Kosciuszko Foundation together with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland, the National Gallery of Art, and the Wajda Film Centre, bring Andrzej Wajda’s final film, Afterimage (Powidoki), to Washington audiences.
The film screening will be followed by a panel discussion about Wajda’s work and influence on Polish cinema.
Afterimage (2016) tells the moving story of avant-garde painter Władysław Strzemiński, who resisted Stalinist orthodoxy and remained faithful to his artistic and political convictions despite persecution.
