Piotr Domalewski is an award-winning director and screenwriter, a graduate of the Acting Department of the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Kraków and the Directing Department of the University of Silesia. His feature debut, Silent Night, won the Golden Lions at the 42nd Polish Film Festival in Gdynia as well as multiple Polish Film Awards (Eagles), including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay. His second film, As Far Away as Possible (Jak najdalej stąd), premiered at the San Sebastián International Film Festival and received dozens of awards at international festivals.
In 2025, his film The Altar Boys (Ministaranci) won the Golden Lions, the Audience Award, and awards for Screenplay and Editing at the 50th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia. Domalewski’s work is distinguished by its profound insight into family relationships, adolescence, and social issues, as well as his exceptional ability to guide actors and craft emotionally resonant, realistic dramas.
Together with Piotr Domalewski, joining us for this special event is one of Poland’s most prominent cinematographers, Piotr Sobociński Jr., a multiple recipient of the prestigious Polish Film Award (Eagles), with 8 nominations and 6 wins for Best Cinematography. He has also been recognized by the Polish Society of Cinematographers (7 nominations, 3 wins) and the Camerimage International Film Festival (7 nominations, 4 wins), among many other international honors.
Cinema runs in his blood — he is the son of Piotr Sobociński and the grandson of Witold Sobociński, both distinguished graduates of the renowned Łódź Film School. Since 2007, Sobociński Jr. has worked as a director of photography on feature films and major commercial productions, collaborating with top global agencies including Havas, Ogilvy & Mather, Publicis, DDB Worldwide, and Leo Burnett Worldwide.
Throughout his career, he has collaborated with acclaimed directors such as Jan Komasa, Wojciech Smarzowski, Łukasz Palkowski, Márta Mészáros, Ricky Rijneke, and Sue Tully.
His cinematography for Corpus Christi brought international acclaim, including an Academy Award nomination for Best International Feature Film, along with numerous awards worldwide — from Venice to Gdynia, Minsk, El Gouna, and beyond.
